Early Times Report
KUPWARA, Apr 27: Army on Friday claimed to have killed three militants in a gunfight near Line of Control in this north Kashmir district on Thursday evening.
A top army official said that the gunfight broke out at Girat Post Kanthwali Jammugund in Keran sector.
"The gunfight broke out after troops of 16 Madras noticed suspicious movement. As troops challenged them, they opened fire which was retaliated, the official said.
The official said that at least three militants were killed; however their bodies were not recovered so far due to darkness and difficult terrain.
Earlier the official said that the additional deployment was sent to the area and cordon and search operation was launched to trace the hiding militants if so possible.
"It seems it is a fresh group of militants which has infiltrated to this side. Intermittent firing between two sides is going on," he added.
However sources told early times that on Friday army resumes searches in Kupwara forests after overnight gunfight with infiltrators that had crossed the line of control in the Keran sector of this border district.
The army has also sounded a high alert in the sector to find out any militants who might have infiltrated also, said sources.
Sources said that army has also pressed sniffer dogs into service to find out any militant body.
