SRINAGAR, Apr 27: Amid rumours that a Kashmiri youth has been abducted by some people in Punjab a special cell of Delhi Police today claimed that the youth was one among two persons involved in hacking and has been arrested.
Some reports got circulated on social networking sites that Adil Hussain Teli, a resident of South Kashmir's Kulgam district has been abducted in Punjab. Adil is pursuing Bachelors Degree in Computer Applications from St. Soldiers Group of Institutions at Jallandhar, Punjab. However, later in the day it turned out that Adil is a hacker.
A spokesman of Delhi Police said that two suspected 'Pro-Pakistan' Kashmiri hackers have been arrested by the Delhi Police's Special Cell from Punjab. The two, who claimed to have hacked over 500 Indian websites, have been identified as Shahid Malla aged 28 years and Adil Hussain Teli aged 20 years.
"Acting on a specific input, the duo was arrested during the intervening night of April 26 and 27 in raids at two locations in Punjab," said P S Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Delhi Police.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) said that as per online activities and initial findings, the two were part of anti-national hacking group called 'Team Hackers Third Eye', and claimed to have hacked more than 500 Indian websites. They were also involved in educating Kashmiri youth to bypass state-imposed social media ban by use of VPN (virtual private network) during April-May 2017, he said.
"The duo was found to be in touch with several Pakistan-based anti-Indian hackers. Some of those hackers are believed to be backed by Pakistani intelligence agencies. The duo was found to be 'pro-Kashmiri terrorism and pro-Pakistan' as they had made anti-India and seditious posts," said Kushwah.
Laptops, mobile phones, SIM cards, internet dongles and memory devices recovered from them will be examined by the Delhi Police in detail to ascertain their role in anti-state activities.
Malla is a second year B Tech student at a college in Rajpora, Punjab. He belongs to Baramulla district in Jammu & Kashmir and was staying at a rented accommodation in Sheetal Colony, Rajpura. Teli is a final-year BCA student at an institute in Jalandhar, Punjab. He belongs to the Kulgam district and was staying at a rented accommodation in a colony in Jallandhar.
A police spokesman while referring to the development said that Cyber Cell of Delhi arrested Teli for his alleged involvement in hacking and economic offences. He said the family members of Teli have been informed about his arrest and the matter has been taken with the Delhi Police.
This refers to the news item appearing on social networking sites and circulated by some media houses that a youth Adil Hussain Teli son of Mohammad Hussain Teli resident of Noonmai, Yaripora-Kulgam has been abducted by some armed personnel in the morning hours from his rented accommodation at Mithu Basti Jallandhar, Punjab where he was pursuing his Bachelor's Degree in Computer Applications from St. Soldiers Group Of Institutions, said the police spokesman.
"The matter was instantly taken up with the officials of Punjab Police which informed the authorities in Jammu & Kashmir that the said person has been taken into custody by the Cyber Cell of Delhi police and is being investigated for his alleged involvement in hacking and economic offences. Authorities in JKP are in touch with their counterparts as well. The family of the said person as per the rules has been informed about it," said the police spokesman.
