Affected farmers hold dharna in Srinagar | Call inauguration of Semi Ring Road a mockery | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 17: The farmers affected by construction of Semi Ring Road in Kashmir sat in for a one day dharna at Srinagar's press enclave to press for their demands. Framers have called inauguration of semi ring road by PM Modi a mockery as affected farmers have not been fairly compensated by the Government till date. The farmers have been demanding revocation of existing J&K Land Acquisition Act which is 87 year old law. In addition to it farmers have been demanding four time more compensation than market value of land plus rehabilitation and resettlement of the affected people. As reported already an alternate 60 kms highway is coming up connecting Pampore highway with Ganderbal via Chadoora , Budgam , Narbal, Sumbal and Ganderbal. This highway starts from Gallandar Pampore and ends at Manigam in Ganderbal. 7000 kanals of agriculture land will be acquired in Pulwama , Budgam , some parts of Srinagar , Baramulla, Bandipora and Ganderbal districts. PM Modi who is scheduled to visit Srinagar on May 19 will be laying the foundation stone for this mega highway. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) pays adequate compensation to the farmers or affected families whose land and property is acquired during highway construction in rest of the country . The affectees get 4 times more valuation than the market value in rural areas , double in urban areas. Due to non applicability of Central Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act in J&K , farmers are the direct victims. " Modi ji is laying foundation stone for this project on May 19, but we are not satisfied . State Government is misleading him , farmers are not happy with this project. We want justice and fair compensation of our acquired land " said G A Paul President Semi Ring Road Land Owners Welfare Association. Farmers in Jammu are also aghast against the Government. The Ring road project in Jammu is also affecting hundreds of families in Kathua , Samba , R S Pora , Marh and other areas. |
