2019 LS polls: BJP mulls new faces to replace incumbent MPs | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 17: Amidst speculations that the BJP high command is likely to field new faces on both Parliamentary seats in Jammu for next year's Lok Sabha elections, the sitting MPs are learnt to have started exploring their options for not to be sidelined. According to reliable sources in BJP circles, the party high command has "almost decided not to repeat its sitting MPs" for Jammu-Poonch and Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary constituencies in the 2019 LS polls. A former minister and another leader are being projected as the new candidates, the sources added. While the party high command is learnt to have told both the leaders to intensify campaign for boosting their image before the Lok Sabha polls, the sitting MPs are sensing trouble for their political career in the wake of new signals. Fearing that they could also meet the fate of a senior leader who has been virtually sidelined in the party despite being second senior most leader in the state unit of BJP, sources said that both the sitting MPS have started trying to woo Sangh Parivar for salvaging their political career. In view of the fact that one of the incumbent MPs has no Assembly constituency the other is well aware of the fact that regaining Nagrota seat from National Conference is almost impossible, both the sitting MPs are fearing it difficult to survive in the state politics, particularly when there is a strong resentment against the BJP, sources explained. In the wake of these developments, sources said that both the sitting MPs are now looking for suitable Assembly constituencies to concentrate their work so that they could stake claim for the mandate of MLA in next state assembly elections, which may be held along with the Lok Sabha polls. |
