| People stage protest against PDD | | |  Early Times Report
Mendhar, May 26: Residents of Chattral in Mendhar Sub Divsion of Poonch district staged a protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) on Saturday demanding a higher capacity power transformer.
The protesters blocked the Chattral road for almost an hour and later staged a sit-in outside the PDD Grid Station Chattral.
A 100 KV transformer presently installed in the village is unable to bear the load and gets frequently damaged, they said while demanding a 250 KV transformer. The residents had earlier also disconnected the high tension wires passing through their village, leaving villages like Chattral Hattian Mohallah under darkness for last two weeks.
The aggrieved residents said that the transformer was damaged around fifteen times in last three months and authorities were not installing a 250 KV transformer to resolve the problem. "Despite submitting bills on time we are being deprived of electricity from last many months," one of the residents said.
"This is 100 KV transformer for 80 houses so it gets damaged every week" another resident Social Workers Advocate Tanveer Iqbal said The residents said after getting no help despite repeated requests to authorities, "They also threatened to intensify the protest if the authorities "failed to fulfill our genuine demands". |
