| Tawi Andolan celebrates World Environment Day | | | JAMMU, June 5: Tawi Andolan celebrated 'World Environment Day' at Forest Information Centre, Bikram Chowk here. On this occasion Prof. Bhola Nath gave detailed information about historical and cultural background of river Tawi. World Famous Environmentalist Dr. C.M. Sethi gave details about the measures being taken in other countries to meet the challenge of Environmental degradation and climate change. Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Shamsher Singh Manhas, in his address as Chief Guest of the programme called upon the members of Tawi Andolan to volunteer themselves to implement central government's schemes meant for ecological balance and conservation of water bodies.
Presenting the vote of thanks Tawi Andolan Convener Advocate Chander Mohan Sharma demanded formation of Tawi Development Board for equitable and comprehensive development of Tawi. He said that Tawi runs through 141 kms in different parts of Jammu province adding that there is a need of developing the shrines located on both sides of the river. |
