KUPWARA, June 7: An army soldier, who was critically injured in an encounter near the Line of Control (LoC) at Keran sector of this north Kashmir district on Thursday, succumbed to injuries on Thursday.
6 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) of Army intercepted a group of militants believed to be infiltrators near Kacchal Post in Keran sector adjacent to Chowkibal forests.
After being challenged the group of militants believed to be 3 to 5 in number opened indiscriminate fire upon the army's ambush party triggering off a gunfight, an official said. He said that in the cross fire two soldiers suffered injuries in the incident, after which the cordon was widened to get the control over the area.
Both the injured have been evacuated to military hospital Drugmulla where from they were airlifted to 92 base army hospital in Badamibagh cantonment of Srinagar area, the official added.
The official said that, from May 26 this year, almost 5-6 infiltration bids have been foiled in Kupwara district only.
Srinagar based defence spokesperson, Col Rajesh Kalia told Early Times that militants our own patrol party that was ahead of the LoC in Keran sector was attacked by militants.
A top police official said that among the injured, Sepoy Sukhvinder Singh succumbed to injuries this afternoon.
Meanwhile security forces today busted a militant hideout in Bandipora district of north Kashmir and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition.
A top rank police official while informing early times said that, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) Battalion busted a militant's hideout and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from Bonzuri Forest area in Bandipora district.
An operation was launched In Chhandaji on Jun 4 by 27 RR and 31 RR coy as there was a tip off information about the movement of militants and their activities, the official said.
He said that huge cache of arms and ammunitions have been recovered including AK-47 rifle 1, AK- 47 Magazines: 8, AK-47 Carts: 242, 7.62 Chinese Pistol: 2, Pistol Mag 3,Pistol Carts 22, Chinese Grenades 5, UBGL Grenades: 15, Binocular 01, Telescope sight 01, Radio 2, Pouch 1, Blanket 3, Feran 1, handmade matrix sheet1, utensils and other items.
