6/7/2018 11:09:30 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 7: Acute shortage of supervisors under Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) project has affected the day-to-day affairs of the scheme.
Nearly 375 posts of supervisors are lying vacant for last many years, reflecting negligence of the department to implement the scheme in letter and spirit.
Reliable sources in the Social Welfare Department informed Early Times that in Kashmir division there are 190 posts of supervisors vacant whereas in 10 districts of Jammu division nearly 175 posts were not fulfilled by department, defeating purpose of the project.
"Out of the 175 posts in Jammu division, the maximum post of supervisors are vacant in district Kathua and Jammu where 32 each posts were not fulfilled by the department, followed by three newly constituted districts including Udhampur, Rajouri and Reasi where 29, 26 and 18 posts respectively are vacant", said sources while whishing anonymity.
Besides, 13 posts of supervisors for Poonch, 12 for Doda and 11 for Samba are vacant for unknown reasons whereas in district Ramban only two posts are vacant.
Similarly, in Kashmir division, the maximum number of posts (32) are vacant in Anantnag, the native district of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, followed by Budgam with 27, Pulwama 18, Kupwara 17, Kulgam 15, Baramulla 29, Bandipora 13, Srinagar 8, Shopian 6, and Ganderbal 12.
Whereas in two district of Leh and Kargil 13 posts are vacant including 2 in Leh and 11 in Kargil district.
As per the source, the supervisor post is considered to be the backbone of the project. The supervisor along with Anganwari workers have to collect information from ground level (village level) and compile it and then submit to the department and also make supervision of the scheme at Aganwari centres. But due to acute shortage of manpower, they are overburdened hold the charge of more than three zones.
