Agri, Hort Deptts recommend sub-standard machinery to farmers 6/7/2018 11:13:15 PM Ashwani Sharma Early Times Report Udhampur, June 7: Bungling in agriculture and horticulture departments has come to light wherein some district level officers and officials of these departments have flouted the norms to make an earning from illegal channels. This has put the government exchequers and farmers to heavy losses. Maintaining anonymity some farmers from Doda, Ramban, Poonch, Kishtwar etc informed that they were denied subsidy on some machines because some departmental officials misguided them while purchasing the same. As per a central government schemes, subsidy is offered to the farmers of purchasing machines for agriculture purpose. Some officials at the agriculture and horticulture departments suggested us to purchase the machines of a particular brand from the dealers which was lesser known for agriculture purpose and the department had also not tested those brands," a farmer said adding that after purchase the machinery turned out to be of poor quality and developed technical snags. "Also no subsidy has been given by the departments on such purchases," he maintained. It is pertinent to mention here that the designated institutions are there with the government of India for testing agricultural machinery to ensure quality for the benefit of the farmers. However, sources maintained that the some employees of agriculture and horticulture departments have a truck with some substandard companies and got huge commissions to recommend their products to the farmers against the government norms and they also accepted the commission from the subsidy amount of farmers . Consequently no subsidy was given to some farmers on such purchases. Moreover, these companies have no service stations in Jammu and Kashmir state. It is pertinent to mention here that farmers in many parts of our country have committed suicide after being messed by all such corrupt practices or crop failures.
