KUPWARA, June 29: An unidentified militant was killed Friday in an encounter with security forces in this frontier district of north Kashmir.
A top police official said that a joint team of security forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the forest area of Trehgam following information about presence of militants there.
Earlier there were specific inputs about the militants in the area. During searches the militant fired on security forces. The fire was retaliated, and in the exchange of gunfire between the two sides, one militant was killed, the official told Early Times.
He said that the identity and group affiliation of the slain militant was not immediately known, adding the one AK-47 rifle, magazines and other items were recovered from the possession of slain militant.
The encounter was over but the security forces have launched massive operation in the area to nab the suspected militants in the dense woods of Trehgam and its adjoining areas, the official added. |
