| Powerful JE holds PWD at ransom in Sunderbani | | | A B Sharma

Sunderbani, June 29: The sad plight of PWD in tehsil Sunderbani of Rajouri is an open affair under the fiefdom of a junior engineer posted in the department who poses more as a self-styled leader than a government employee. This JE has been controlling the department with heavy political patronage that even his superiors fear to initiate any action against him. The corrupt practices of the JE are manifold. Recently it was found that he got work executed at 10 km road from Bakhar to Saleri in Sunderbani tehsil for which he realized Rs 35 lakh, out of which only Rs 17 lakh was spent while the rest of the amount was gulped by him and his close contractor.
The issue came to light only when a blacktopping work was executed on this road for 3 kilometers and after some time the entire blacktop got eroded showing up the substandard material used in the construction of the full length 10 kilometers road.
When asked about his misdeeds, the JE boastfully ignored the query and directed the Early Times to seek clarification from his superiors.
The superiors even say that despite knowing his corrupt practices, they avoid taking any action against the JE as he enjoys full political patronage and is assumed to pass on share from the bribe money to the higher ups also.
The people of the area allege that since no departmental enquiry has been initiated against the JE, they want that a Vigilance team should inspect the damaged road and access the total funds expended on it.
They also appealed to the Governor N N Vohra to personally take cognizance of the matter so that JE could be brought to the book. |
