Once abode of militants, Sinthan Top emerges as alternate tourist destination | | | Early Times Report
Kishtwar, July 10: Situated at an altitude of 12500 feet above the sea level, Sinthan top located on Kishtwar-Anantnag-Srinagar National Highway was once a militancy hub along with various other areas of Chatroo Division, but it has now become a prime tourist destination in Chatroo area of Kishtwar District along with places like Pehgwari, Chingam, Alloo farum, Famber, etc. After normalcy returned to Kishtwar District, despite the fact that there is no infrastructure or any other modern day government facility available at these spots, but even then thousands of locals and outsiders are visiting this tourist destination along with their families to beat the prevailing hot weather conditions. As Kashmir valley is facing trouble due to ongoing turmoil with only around 5% occupancy of the hotels, the people are looking forward for alternative hill stations and tourism destinations in peaceful areas like Doda and Kishtwar District where in Padri, Jia valley, Lal Draman, Bimal Nag, Sartangal, Mughal Maidan but Kishtwar's Chatroo with place like sinthan top and Chatroo pond. Surrounded by small mountains with green pasture, Sinthan top mostly remained covered with snow for more than six months in a year and in summer when the scorching heat wave engulfed the plane areas of the country, the Sinthan top offers a pleasant weather not only to the local people visiting the place for picnic but to many tourist who visited this place, mostly from Kashmir side as the road leading from Srinagar to Sinthan top offers a smooth drive to tourist up to the top. While praising the beauty of Sinthan top the tourist said that the place is beautiful like a heaven on earth, but at the same time is lacking far away in terms of infrastructure. "Some infrastructure issues are there, roads should be better and there is no fuel station on either side of 50 KM road stretch" said the visitors added that the place could be developed as a major tourist destination in Jammu Division. Another tourist said that he felt disappointed while approaching the top from Kishtwar side as the road was in very poor condition and needed immediate attention. An officer of the district administration said that government is working towards improving the road condition this season and hoped that Kishtwar-Sinthan road will be blacktopped this year. They said that around Rs. 20 Crore has been sanctioned by the government for blacktopping the road for which almost all formalities has been completed. |
