Mafia runs illegal taxi stand at Katra
7/21/2018 11:06:26 PM
Early Times Report

Katra, July 21: At the base camp of the holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi, certain illegal activities are ruining its sanctity.
As a pilgrim vehicle lands at the bus stop Katra, it is not guided towards new bus stand but is left held up near the slip counter site and graft is taken from him/her.
This is a regular practice of some of the influential people of the town who do not have the administrative or official authority to take money from the vehicles parked around the venue, but the corrupt practice is going unabated.
This also leads to the choking of the area which restricts the movement of the pedestrian pilgrims who are subjected to great hardships.
Also, there is no authority deployed in the area to check corruption which is going on under the very nose of the administration.
To add to the miseries of the people at Katra base camp, one can come across many traffic cops deployed and moving in the area to regulate the traffic but none cares to take the cognizance of corruption.
"We do not understand for what such deployment of Traffic police is made if they are nonchalant towards corruption," said a pilgrim from Uttar Pradesh who along with his family had tough time manoeuvring through the crowd and making his way to Ban Ganga.
The locals of the area also alleged that some influential people have formed a strong network of illegal activities at illegal taxi stand at main chowk Katra and are taking the advantage of mis-governance in the town.
"No official authority has been given to these goons who keep on befooling the people and exercise a rowdy control over the vehicular movement at Katra by asking the vehicle owners to shell out a substantial money," said a local of the area.
He informed that by doing so these influential goons are making nearly 4000 to 5000 rupees daily.
The locals as well as a regular pilgrims to Mata Vaishno Devi Katra have appealed to the Divisional Commissioner Jammu and District Commissioner Reasi to immediate take action against these people so that the network of mafia illegal taxi stand at Katra can be broken.
