Land mafia grabs prime land in overnight 'operations' in Sidhra
Authorities found sleeping, refuse to take action
7/21/2018 11:34:34 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, July 21: In two overnight raids in Sidhra area of Jammu city, vast stretches of prime government land has been encroached upon by some land grabbers along a seasonal nullah but the government are reluctant to take action for reasons best known to them.
According to the locals, over 50 Kanals of prime government land along a seasonal nullah and some portion of nullah, which falls near the Police headquarters Sidhra, have been encroached by the land grabbers in two night raids.
"The land grabbers allegedly in connivance with the officials of various law enforcement agencies, chose night hours to grab the land", the locals said, adding that over 10 dumpers and some land movers had reached to the area in two previous nights and had started dumping and levelling the area.
People initially thought that it was being done by some government authorities to raise some government structure, but later found that the activity was done by a local land grabber, enjoying political influence.
"The land grabber has already grabbed huge stretches of government land in various areas and also used the name of religion and community to make his deeds legal", sources said, adding that when the land-grabbing was being done, some people and youth had also gathered there to foil any design of law abiding citizens.
Sources further alleged that it was almost clear that some of the government officials, under whose jurisdiction the land falls, had a truck with the land grabber and a deal was already fixed between them.
They further informed that on Wednesday night the land grabbers started encroaching upon the land and when they left the area, some people dismantled the structure they raised. "But last night, once again they returned back and started encroaching upon the land by levelling the same and this time they raised a cemented structure", sources said.
They further alleged that now the land of nullah, which came under the jurisdiction of Irrigation and Flood Control Division have been passing buck to Jammu Development Authority or the Jammu and Kashmir Police to take action. "Neither I&FD or Jammu and Kashmir Police is going to take any action as there could be possibilities that the officials of both department may already be on board ", sources alleged.
They further informed that the land grabber has adopted a unique strategy by raising a cowshed in the encroached area. "Even some cows have been kept there by theland grabber to give an impression that it is a cowshed but same is a temporary one to legalize his claim over the land", they said, adding that some other governmentland was also vacant in the area, which would also be encroached by the land grabbers in coming days with active connivance of government departments.
