PDP's prospective revamp to empower businessman-turned-politician
7/24/2018 11:06:12 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, July 24: With the Vice President of Peoples Democratic Party Sartaj Madni, and several others having resigned from the executive body of the PDP, the move aims to revamp of the party with empowerment of "new faces in the kitchen cabinet."
Sources said as a part of the "prospective restructuring" of the PDP, the party looks ahead to give crucial assignments to some leaders like a businessman-turned-politician and that this was the reason by Madni and several others have resigned from the executive body as a part of "predefined strategy."
Sources said this politician, who was being looked with "suspicion till sometime back as a bad bishop", is set to "bounce back" in the executive body of the party with more powers vested in him than before.
Sources said the politician who was also a minister in the previous government has discussed his "political prospects" with the party leadership including PDP President Mehbooba Mufti.
Sources said as a part of the revamp the businessman would be assigned a key role in the party leadership as also in its executive body.
Sources said Mehbooba wants to throw weight behind this party leader as a part of the "revival of trust in him." "After rebellion, he(politician) was under scanner but till now he has proved a loyalist and so negotiations are on to empower him in a way the consolidates he (Mehbooba's) position," said a senior PDP leader on the condition of anonymity.
Pertinently in the last party elections for its executive body, this politician who had been holding the post of party treasurer for long, was stripped of the charge.
"But now forget treasurer-ship, he will be among the most powerful faces in the party," the PDP leader said.
Sources said the Muftis are satisfied with the efforts of this leader to keep "PDP intact" amid a open rebellion as announced by their colleague Imran Reza Ansari.
Ansari seems to back Sajjad Gani Lone as the Chief Minister, in possible effort of fresh alliance between the BJP and the rebels.
Ansari, who was also a minister in the previous government has openly questioned the "family raaj" in the PDP and claims to be enjoying support of the majority of the MLAs.
Though initially it was believed that the businessman-turned-politician was in touch with the rebels headed by Ansari, he is now seen closer to the Muftis.
Despite repeated attempts the PDP leader in question couldn't be contacted for comments.
