Villagers accuse Mehbooba's cousin of land grab
7/24/2018 11:57:11 PM

Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 24: Members of Local Auqaf Committee on Monday held protests against Mehbooba Mufti's cousin in Dooru area of Anantnag district.
Local Auqaf Committee alleged that former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti's cousin Aroot Madni has grabbed prized land belonging to Local Auqaf Committee.
Land measuring 4 kanals and 12 marlas was leased out to PDP Leader Sartaj Madni's son Aroot Madni at a mutually agreed rent of Rs 1 lakh per year, with a 5 per cent increment every year.
However, Auqaf Committee said that Aroot Madni neither pays the rent nor is vacating the land.
Aroot, according to them had established a car sales and service centre by the name of "Noble Garage" on the land and had paid Rs 2.5 Lakh as rent.
"In 2016, the lease agreement has expired but he (Aroot) isn't vacating the land. He also isn't paying the rent amount he owes to Auqaf Committee," they said.
Auqaf Committee members claimed that he was demanding Rs 7 Lakh from them for vacating the land.
Saqib Mani-younger son of Sartaj Madni- was only seeking money for the boundary wall he had erected on the land and the land filling cost.
"I was seeking an extension to the contract which the committee was delaying for reasons better known to them. Finally, I agreed to vacate the land but sought money for the boundary wall I had erected on the land and the land filling cost," Saqib told a Srinagar based newspaper.
Tehsildar Dooru, Muzaffer Ahmad Malik who met protesting Auqaf Committee members said that he will sort out the issue.
Aroot is elder son of Sartaj Madni and cousin of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. He hogged headlines for his "backdoor appointment" in the state Khadi & Village Industries Board (KVIB), however Aroot declined the job offer after Mehbooba Mufti ordered a high-level probe into the appointment.
