"A joint patrol of 1 RR, Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police and 162 BN, 40 BN of CRPF and Para commandos launched searches in the early hours of morning at Lal Chowk area in Anantnag town after it received credible leads about the presence of the terrorists inside a house," said SSP Anantnag Mohammad Altaf Khan.
"As the security forces advanced towards the suspected house, the terrorists hiding inside fired on them, which was retaliated resulting in an encounter in which two terrorists were eliminated. Besides, no collateral damage occurred during the encounter," he added.
He said on the basis of the incriminating materials seized, it is established that they belonged to terrorist organisation - LeT; one of the killed terrorists was identified as Bilal Ahmad Dar alias Bin Yamin Dar, son of Mohammad Yousuf Dar of Sofi Mohalla Khudwani Kulgam. The identity of the other terrorist is yet to be ascertained.
"As per police records, Bilal alias Bin Yamin Dar was involved in series of terror acts. Some arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter," SSP informed.
J&K Police has registered a case and investigation has been initiated into the matter.
Earlier, a J&K cop sustained injuries after being hit by a stone during clashes with protesters. Groups of youth took to streets at Lazibal, Kadipora, Chee and other neighborhood localities of Lal Chowk and pelted rocks at the forces deployed to foil any protests.
Security forces had also sealed all entry and exit points to ensure anti-militancy operation is carried out without any trouble. Mobile internet services have been suspended in Anantnag district as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, the Indian Army is also engaged in an encounter on the LoC in Keran sector when a group of Pakistani terrorists was trying to infiltrate from there.
"Encounter started between the terrorists and Army is on at the LoC in Keran sector of North Kashmir's Kupwara district. The exchange of fire is still going on between the troops and the terrorists," sources in Army told Mirror.
