Rajouri: MGNREGA funds 'siphoned off by BDO, VLWs'
7/25/2018 11:35:53 PM
Early Times Report
sunderbani, July 25: The various works executed under the MGNREGA in district Rajouri have come under scanner for being done illegally by paying money to non-deserving persons.
In one such incident at Garn (Barnara) at nalla Makol, a work of distribution of tributaries was allocated under MGNREGA amounting to Rs 3 lakh. Even as funds were released, no work was executed on the ground.
It is being also alleged that the officials of the rank of senior and junior engineers have been instrumental in siphoning off the money.
Also, a Block Development Officer and the Village Level Workers (VLWs) are reported to be involved in distributing the funds to the non-players while the genuine workers are kept at bay.
"The money has been transferred into the accounts of the people who are 80 to 85 year old or are females. This money is then taken by the BDO in connivance with the VLWs," alleged a worker Ashok Kumar who was not paid for his 20 work days under the MGNREGA scheme.
Kumar said when he approached the concerned VLW Thoru Ram to demand his hard earned money, the latter faked excuses. "Thoru Ram gave me just Rs 4500," Kumar told Early Times.
It is in rule book that no cash can be given to any worker and instead his money is transferred into his account, while in Kumar's case it was not done and the money was transferred to somebody else's account.
The people of the area alleged that besides looting the MGNREGA exchequer, the BDO and VLWs are even not executing the welfare works for the people which are urgently required.
They have appealed the Governor N N Vohra as well as concerned DC to look into the matter and bring culprits to the books besides releasing the money in the favour of genuine workers.
