Floriculture has huge growth potential: Advisor Ganai

SRINAGAR, July 25: Advisor to the Governor, Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, Wednesday said that floriculture has immense growth potential in the state and stressed upon the farmers to adopt latest trends in the sector given its huge export market availability as compared to other allied-sectors.
The Advisor made these observations while addressing a jam-packed gathering of farmers and floriculturists during a day-long training programme on Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) scheme for flower grower of Kashmir.
The function was also attended by Secretary Floriculture Department Talat Parvez, Director Floriculture Kashmir Mathura Masoom, and Deputy General Manager NABARD Qamar Javed, besides other officials.
The Advisor said that the floriculture sector is more remunerative as returns per kanal are high in comparison to horticulture and other agricultural sectors.
He said that the need of the hour is to create awareness, knowledge and expertise among valley-based farmers so that they can take to floriculture and reap its benefits.
He said there is more employment potential in the floriculture sector through its backward and forward linkages and added that the activity is nonpolluting.
