Inspection team unearths Sub human conditions in Pahari hostels
8/1/2018 10:32:18 PM
Early Times Report
Rajouri, Aug 1: After detailed inspection of Government Boys Pahari Hostel (GBPH) on the directions from DDC, Food Safety Officer who headed the inspection team observed that Institution had totally failed to provide safe and wholesome food to the students.
He also observed that no institution he inspected during his service was found in such a worst condition like GBPH the team inspected on Tuesday.
Sanjeev Bali, District Food Safety Officer (DFSO) who headed the inspection team from Drugs & Food Control Organisation (D&FCO) in his observations has appealed to the concerned authorities to take necessary immediate measures to improve the sanitation condition of the hostel and provide better facilities especially wholesome food to the beneficiaries.
The team members found the floor of mess-cum-dining hall in broken condition, old and broken furniture, and insufficient chairs for the students, few toilets for about 1150 students that too in un-hygenic condition with broken doors.
"Few new toilets were constructed for the use of the students but yet have not been handed over to the students by the Warden who is on leave. No provision of safe drinking water and washing of hands and utensils was found in the hostel" said team head.
He added electric boards were found broken and hanging from walls, no alternate arrangement was found if the electricity was not available, no uniforms, books, copies/ writing material was issued to the students and more than maximum fans were found non-functional even during this hot season.
The matter has also been taken up with the Secretary, State Pahari Advisory Board who has assured for necessary action in this matter" said Bali.
Team members in their observation came to the conclusion that the management (Warden) of GBPH has totally failed to provide safe & sufficient food to the beneficiaries.
"After inspection it was observed that Kitchen & Mess didn't fulfil any parameter under the provision of Food Supply & Standard Act(FS&S A). Raw material was stored in unhygienic conditions in the store. Three samples of raw material including of rice, refined oil and spices were lifted to be tested in the laboratory to ascertain the quality of the food being served to the beneficiaries" said Bali for analysis.
Pertinently, for the last few years students of GBPH have been raising voice against the Warden for mismanagement, misappropriation of funds, inadequate services to the students and other issues.
