Major purchase scandal surfaces in JKBOSE
Stationery worth crores bought in advance, rotting in stores

Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 1: A major purchase scam has surfaced in J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE), wherein stationery items worth several crores of rupees was purchased in advance in return of kickbacks from the suppliers.
Though the answer scripts, text book paper and forms have little life span and perish very soon, huge stock of these items was purchased and is now rotting in various stores of JKBOSE.
Sources in the JKBOSE informed Early Times that some of its outgoing officials, in league with incumbent officials, had purchased stationery items to the tune of several crores. "The quantity of purchased items was so huge that same could be used for many years despite the fact that answer scripts, text book papers, different types of forms, and other stationery items have little life span", sources said.
They further disclosed that some of the printers, who used to supply these items to the JKBOSE, in connivance with some officials, had mooted a proposal and took it up with the officials of Board and promised to give huge commission to them.
"As the JKBOSE is an autonomous institution and usually there is no interference from the government, so there is none to ask these officials about the rampant purchase of unnecessary stationery items in advance", sources said, adding that even the stores of JKBOSE have been overflowing with the items.
An official of JKBOSE said the printed forms would not long for more than few years, whereas the paper would be of no use after one or two years. "In such condition, when the Board has shortage of storing these items, why such items have been purchased is a million dollar question", the official said, adding that an enquiry must be initiated against the officials involved in the entire scandal.
The JKBOSE has wasted the money by unfruitful expenditure only for kickbacks for some of the officials which needs to be investigated, the official said.
