Terrorists loot bank, audacious act caught on CCTV footage
8/1/2018 10:33:53 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 1: Around six-eight terrorists barged into a private bank in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Wednesday and allegedly looted Rs 5.78 lakh at gunpoint. Times Now has accessed the exclusive CCTV footage of the audacious terror loot. The incident occurred at Qaimoh in Kulgam district of south Kashmir in broad daylight.
The CCTV footage shows terrified officials and customers at the State Bank of India (SBI) Qaimoh branch. The terrorists' faces were masked and they held AK-47s in their hands.
A police official said the terrorists fled the scene immediately after looting the bank. A probe into the matter is underway and a manhunt for the accused is on.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police are trying to trace the bank notes. Notably, this is not the first incident of bank robbery in the state. There has been a flurry of bank loot incidents in Jammu and Kashmir since Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes on November 08, 2016.
PM Modi had said one of the reasons for demonetisation was to choke funds to terrorists. On July 27, unidentified gunmen shot at a civilian and a bank guard while trying to loot a Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch at Mohanpora Kulgam in south Kashmir.
The gunmen opened fire as the bank employees tried to resist their robbery bid. On May 28, two terrorists looted Rs 1.7 lakh from a bank in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. The terrorists also snatched a 12-bore rifle from the guard of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch at Srigufwara.
