After mass transfer, 'suspension scam' in Kishtwar police surfaces

Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 11: After the mass scale transfers issued by the outgoing Superintendent Police Kishtwar Abrar Chowdhary, another scandal of mass scale suspension of police personnel in Kishtwar has surfaced during the short tenure of Chowdhary.
Sources told Early Times that Chowdhary, in a well coordinated manner, suspended around 100 cops and later entrusted the enquiries to few designated officials who later reinstated them following alleged deals.
The matter was also reported by various intelligence agencies working in Kishtwar to the government, but due to political patronage from a former minister in the then PDP-BJP government, the accused officer and his close confidants managed to continue in the district.
However, after the imposition of the Governor's Rule, action was initiated against the erring officer following reports from various quarters.
Speaking to Early Times some of the aggrieved police personnel said that they were forced into submission for none of their faults. They said they were harassed and threatened, and called upon the higher authorities to order a probe into the issue and re-examine each and every suspension and the reason behind it.
A policeman said they can't even protest against these highhandedness and added that police force hasn't been allowed to form an association that can look into these types of issues and complaints.
He said that they were left with no other option other than to surrender before the demands of the seniors. They said their services could even be referred for termination by the senior officials.
Another policeman said they are happy with the Governor's decision of transferring the former SP Kishtwar and added that they are hopeful that new SSP Kishtwar will listen to them and solve their issues through public 'darbars'.
Meanwhile, some police officials told Early Times that the outgoing SSP managed a grid of some people who had been tasked to promote the officer in every situation on social media as well as during official meetings chaired by the senior officials who visited Kishtwar from time to time. They said that even some people were promoted as media persons in the district by the outgoing officer who had no relevant qualification.
They called for in-depth probe into the functioning of the District Police Kishtwar during the tenure of outgoing officer and also called upon the authorities to direct the incumbent SSP Kishtwar to relieve all the inspector level and Sub Inspector level who were transferred nearly a year ago either by the DGP J&K or by the IGP Jammu zone.
