Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 26: Disappointed over sharp decline in enrolment of students in Government schools under Mid-Day-Meal Scheme (MDMS), the Director School Education Jammu (DSEJ) sought clarification from Chief Education Officers of Jammu division.
According to sources the CEOs have been asked by direction office, to reply within a week over the issue, so that the actual reasons behind the decline may be committed to higher authorities for remedial measures.
"The perusal of Quarterly Progress Report (April 2018 to June 2018) of financial year 2018-19 under Mid Day Meal Scheme reveals that there is a huge decline in the enrolment of the Districts of Jammu division in comparison with the enrolment ending March 2018", the DSEJ asked CEOs.
The DSEJ through official communication further said that the decrease in enrolment in respect of District Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, Doda, Ramban and Poonch raised serious questions about the functioning of the Scheme.
As per the comparison of Quarterly Progress Report- Ist (2018-19) with enrolment of ending March, 2018- the report found that in district Kathua 1667 less enrollment from the previous year at Primary level whereas in district Reasi, Doda, Ramban and Poonch as 2360, 2308, 2176 , 2545 respectively.
"Moreover, districts like Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, Kishtwar and Rajouri have not yet compiled the exact enrolment for the year 2018-19. They reflected the enrolment of ending March 2018 in Quarterly Progress Report -Ist under MDM Scheme", the communiqué read and also raised questions over the working of administration school education at district as well as zone level.
"It is a matter of grave negligence that even after a lapse of considerable time; districts are not able to get the exactenrollment of their zones for the year 2018-19. In this context, you are directed to furnish the justification/clarification on the above said matter so that actual figure may be communicated to the Administrative Department for the smooth implementation of the scheme", the communique further read.
