Governor approves 7th pay commission for SSA teachers | Inefficiency of previous Govt exposed | | Early times Report JAMMU, Sept 26: As the Government on Wednesday decided to implement 7th pay commission recommendation for the agitating SSA teachers in Jammu and Kashmir, there are questions being raised that why then the previous government constituted a committee for the purpose and why tax payers' money was wasted in it. The state government had earlier constituted a high level committee recommend whether 7th pay commission shall be accorded to the SSA teachers in the state. The committee was slated to submit its report in November this year. However, with SSA teachers protesting and sitting on hunger strike, the government was compelled to announce 7th pay commission in their favour. The question however remains that why the committee was constituted and then sidelined. "It was the previous government that didn't even think once before constituting the committee. It should have deliberated over the issue in a threadbare way before taking any such decision. It was as if the government was hell bent to drain out peoples' money and waste the time of the officials that otherwise could have been spent in some constructive work," said an official privy to the development. It was after almost 25 days of hunger strike that the demands were finally met by the Governor administration. Meanwhile, as per the government reports, a delegation of agitating SSA teachers led by Abdul Qayoom Wani, President, Employees Joint Action Committee, met Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan in Srinagar on Wednesday. The delegation requested Governor for inclusion of SSA teachers under the ambit of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations. Taking note of their demand, Governor directed to take immediate further steps for implementation of 7th Pay Commission in favour of SSA teachers. He observed that teachers are the catalyst of progress for any society and urged them to always remain devoted towards imparting quality teaching and learning to children. "This could have been done a long ago by the previous government. It is beyond understanding that why the matter was derailed to such a pass that the teachers had to protest and sit on hunger strike," says a senior official of the state dispensation. |
