KVK organises Field Day on maize crop

Reasi,, Sept 29: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu organized field day on maize crop at village Bharakh in Pouni block of Reasi district in which large number of farmers enthuastically participated.
The programme was organized under the guidance and supervision of Associate Director Extension and Incharge KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr.RK Arora. The major objective of the programme was to showcase the success of performance of maize variety Double Deklab at farmers' field. The programme was initiated by Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal with the warm welcome of the farmers.
He explained the objectives of Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) especially on maize crop and elaborated the scientific technologies by which farmers can increase the maize production. He demonstrated the maize variety Double Deklab laid at farmers' fields by the KVK, Reasi and stressed on the cultivation of maize hybrids to increase the production and productivity of maize crop in the region. He suggested the farmers for the use of maize hybrids and gave a detail view of scientific technologies which are needed for hybrid maize production. He further added that Front Line Demonstrations laid by the KVK scientists signify the technologies by which farmers can get maximum yield from per unit area per unit time. He narrated that average maize yield of Reasi district is low as compared to the national average yield and there is need to adopt the scientific techniques for the maize cultivation. He suggested the farmers that every year they should purchase the quality certified seed of maize hybrids and informed them to use only the recommended varieties for the district. He emphasized on line sowing in maize crop by which weeding/hoeing in maize crop becomes easier which further helps to increase the maize production. He also emphasized on the nutrient management in maize crop and stressed on the compost and vermi-compost for organic maize production. He stressed on seed treatment in maize crop. He further added that timely hoeing and chemical methods can be should be used by the farmers to manage the weeds in maize crop.
