PDP leaders appointed 'anti-national' elements during their rule?
9/29/2018 11:16:50 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 29: Just within a year, MLA of the Peoples Democratic Party Aijaz Ahmad Mir is again in news as once again a Special Police Officer, whom he had helped in getting appointed has fled away with seven rifles and the licensed pistol of the legislator. Prior to this Mir's driver was arrested by police in 2017 for having link with the militants.
SPO Adil Bashir of Zainpora, Shopian, managed to steal seven AK-47 rifles and a pistol from the high security Jawahar Nagar area in Srinagar. The area houses the residences of the high profile legislators and the leaders, who enjoy the security cover provided by the Government of India.
An official said that the incident took place at a time when the personal security guards of the MLA Wachi, Aijaz Ahmed Mir had gone to their homes since the MLA was out of station."The guards had kept their guns in a locked trunk. The question arises how he managed to flee with the weapons," the official said
Mir has a security cover of eight policemen at present. "The incident happened at 6:30 pm when the SPO had entered J-11 quarter (official residence of MLA Mir) to clean the rooms," said a source.
The source said that the accused SPO was one of the close aides of the PDP MLA and he (Mir) had reportedly used his "influence" to get Adil Bashir appointed as the SPO.
In July 2017 Police had detained Touseef Ahmad, the driver of the same MLA for having links with the militants. Touseef, a resident of Chokura Pulwama, was from security wing of J&K police.
A source alleged that when PDP was in power its leaders "misused" their power and influence to appease the separatists and the people who had direct links with the militants. "Slowly its coming to fore that PDP leaders during their rule left no stone unturned to patronize the anti-national elements," he added.
An analyst said that the Governor's administration should order a probe to look into the appointments which have been made in police and other departments during the PDP's tenure. "We don't know who all have entered into the system. The SPO appointed by the PDP MLA fleeing away with eight weapons, including the registered pistol of the MLA, is a serious issue and it cannot be brushed aside," he added.
A defence analyst said, "The Government of India should take a serious note of such incidents and take stern action against the people who have directly or indirectly helped the people having links with the separatists."
