Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Sep 29: Laxity of the authorities of University of Kashmir has pushed hundreds of students to the wall and the career of such students is at stake as they may miss out to join the post graduate (PG) courses at the varsity.
Early Times has learnt from students that flaws in results of these student in the fifth and sixth semester examination at the under graduate level has led to a situation that these students may not join the PG courses.
These students are at crossroads as they despite faring well in the entrance examination may not make the final cut.
"Result of hundreds of students has been shown as Later On (LO) or Not Available (NA) due to the mismanagement of university authorities in the examination department of the varsity. We fear the flawed results might not give us an opportunity to apply for post-graduation courses of the university," said students.
The examination wing of the university recently declared the result of fifth and sixth semester examination of the under graduate courses (third year) of the various colleges. The examinations started in the last week of June and culminated in July. Around 31,500 students appeared in the examinations.
One of the students said that in his result in the Zoology paper it was shown that he got 24 marks and when he applied for its Xerox copy he was shocked when an experienced evaluator said that he has been given very few marks by the teacher who checked his paper. He said given this situation how can one judge fairness and accuracy of the results?
Many of the students said that they have been declared as not qualified by the varsity since the marking done by the contractual lecturers was not correct and the same was done in haste.
One of the students said that despite attempting three questions in education subject she was shocked to see her result as re-appear.
"Around 31,500 students appeared in the examinations and the evaluators had to evaluate 2, 52,000 answer scripts. It is virtually impossible that evaluators would check the papers in 60 days. The hasty approach adopted by the university authorities has marred our career and the worst part is that buck stops nowhere," said students.
The students have sought personal intervention of Chancellor, Governor Satya Pal Malik and Vice Chancellor, Prof Talat Ahmad so that the revaluation of the papers applied for by these candidates is completed within 10 days. They said that if the same is not done then they would not be able to pursue PG courses despite the fact that they fared well in the entrance examination for various subjects.
"The university authorities should either defer the PG admission process for 15 days till re-evaluation results are declared or provisional admission is given to the students who have applied for re-evaluation. The students are even ready to give an undertaking that their PG admission should be cancelled if they failed to score the required marks in the subjects even after re-evaluation," said students.
