Early Times Report

JAMMU, Nov 27: Shivani Charak of Mountaineering Association J&K, currently the top woman sport climber of India, added another feather to her cap when she won the coveted Women's title of the 2nd All India Bouldering Competition which concluded at Bangalore. With this win against some prominent international climbers she has further consolidated her position of being the overall top woman sport climber of India in all the three forms of climbing. Earlier this year, she had won two lead climbing titles and two silver medals in speed climbing and is thus the only woman climber to win 3 Gold and 2 silver medals in the national sport climbing competitions during the year 2018. Her achievements this year shall definitely facilitate her selection for the Olympic Games to be held at Japan in April, 2020. Like in the semi final Shivani was in her usual rhythm in the final round of the bouldering competition and finished ahead of all other climbers to win the Gold medal. No other climber could match her power, agility, technique and temperament. Chea Amlia and Prateeksha Arun, both international climbers from South zone, secured the 2nd and 3rd places respectively. The other two J&K climbers Ajay Deep Singh and Arun Deep in the Boys category also gave a good account of them in the semi final to finish at 4th and 5th place and qualified for the final round. However, pitted against some international climbers they could not improve their position in the final round and remained at 4th and 5th positions. Sahil Khan of West Zone who recently won a bronze medal in the Asian Youth Championship at Chongqing, China, Arjun M and Madan S, both from South Zone clinched the first three positions respectively.
