| Former Norwegian PM meeting Pak stooges puts GoI in tight spot | | 'Centre violating country's 71-year-old policy by allowing outsiders to intervene' | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 27: Former Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik conducting a whirlwind tour of New Delhi and Kashmir, and then visiting Pakistan has raised many questions.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "It seems that something is cooking. It looks like that the BJP led NDA government has softened its stand and has allowed the citizens of the third country to enter into negotiations with the Pak stooges in Kashmir and the leaders in Pakistan."
He said that former Norwegian Prime Minister met the representatives of the Central Government in New Delhi and then later went to Srinagar and met the Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and so-called JKLF chief Yasin Malik. Then he went to Pakistan and met Shah Mehmood Qureshi, foreign minister of the neighbouring country and the so-called president of Pakistan occupied Kashmir in Muzaffarabad.
The analyst said that it looks like that the BJP led NDA government has "compromised on" the national security by allowing "third party mediation" in Jammu and Kashmir. "Is it that the Prime Minister Modi had sent Bondevik to Kashmir to hold negotiations with the separatists? The Government of India should clear the air over the issue and tell the country what's happening," he added.
A defence analyst said, "Any negotiations with the separatists and Pakistan at this stage would reverse all the gains which the security forces have made during all these years. The security forces have almost wiped out militancy from Kashmir by killing more than 200 militants during the past few months. Stone-pelting has almost ended."
He said security forces are rendering invaluable sacrifices to restore normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir. "National Investigating Agency has almost blocked the terror funding channels and the second rung separatists are cooling their heels behind the bars," the defence analyst added.
He said that any sort of talks with the Pak stooges at this point of time would provide a breathing space to the anti-national elements and militants who are on the run.
An observer said that soon after the Norwegian Prime Minister met the separatists in Srinagar they issued a statement claiming that "Norway has always played a positive role in conflict resolutions and the Norwegian government should make serious efforts to resolve the vexed Kashmir dispute."
He said that the BJP led NDA government by allowing the former Norwegian Prime Minister to meet the separatists has made a "big mistake." "Any change of stance would encourage the separatist elements and their bosses sitting across the Line of Control," he added.
The observer said that India's foreign policy underlines that only India and Pakistan can hold a mutual discussion on the boundary dispute. "The GoI is violating the country's 71-year-old policy to deal with the issue by allowing outsiders to intervene," he added.
Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, "Unfortunately, for the first time a weak Modi government is in power, which has knelt down before terrorists, extremism and Naxalism. We cannot expect it to take a solid step on the issue of the national security." |
