Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Dec 19: A video of Deputy Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation went viral on social media today, where he was seen using a derogatory language against the on duty doctor at Chest Disease hospital, an associated hospital of GMC Srinagar, many civil societies and medical associations have appealed the Governor to take action against the Dy Mayor. Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Wednesday issued a statement in which they have expressed strong resentment over unruly behavior of Deputy Mayor Srinagar with an on-duty doctor at Chest Disease Hospital, an associated hospital of Government Medical College Srinagar.
"It has become a routine that different ward members, Panchs Sarpanchs and now Deputy Mayor are routinely interfering in hospitals to get political mileage as our hospitals remain flooded with the public," said statement.
The statement said that, "The on-duty doctor was busy and was filling a referral form of a 60-year-old female patient who was suffering from mediastinal mass and SVC obstruction".
DAK president, Dr Suhail Naik said that "Such interference is a common phenomenon and we warn them to mind their own work. Rather than interfering in technical issues of the medical profession, it was better for him to focus on hospital sanitation, drainage, water supply, and electricity."
"From his physical and verbal gestures, it does not seem he has got the education from a western country. It was better for him to get moral education from some primary school of Kashmir", Dr Naik added. DAK urges Governor Satya Pal Malik and Advisor HME, K Vijay Kumar to take strong note and action against the erring and unruly behavior of the Deputy Mayor. Meanwhile, Society of Dental Surgeons J&K (SDSJK) has also issued a press statement where they have strongly condemned the deplorable behavior of Deputy Mayor Srinagar who has surpassed his service domain and was blatant indecent in his approach while on a political stint show yesterday night at CD Hospital Srinagar. President SDSJK Dr Imtyaz Banday has appealed the Governor to kindly intervene in this matter as in what capacity he inspected the hospital. The Kashmir Economic Alliance President Haji Muhammad Yasin Khan has condemned the "abusive publicity of stunts" of the Deputy Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation Sheikh Imran whereby he misbehaved with a team of doctors at a government hospital in the Srinagar.
Spokesperson of the KEA said it was unfortunate that instead of concentrating on his basic duty of keeping Srinagar neat and clean, the Dy Mayor was crossing all limits for sake of publicity.
Pertinently Sheikh Imran, an independent corporator backed by Congress, was elected Deputy Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC). Imran won the election by one vote.
He bagged 35 votes while his opponent polled 34 votes in the recently held ULB elections in J&K.
