Over 400 influential professors overstaying in city colleges
State administration follows politicians' footsteps

Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 19: Following the footsteps of politicians, the state administration has also been sympathetic to over 400 influential College professors, who have been overstaying at their choicest colleges in city areas for the last over four to six years together. These influential overstaying college professors are beneficiaries of the transfer industry, working round the clock during popular governments but the state administration continued to provide them safe shelter due to unknown reasons.
According to sources in the Higher Education department the city colleges of Jammu city and Sringar cities were overburdened with the influential Assistant professors or Associate Professors. "These influential faculty members include relatives of politicians, bureaucrats, police officials, government officials, businessmen and others and they remained prone to transfers during the popular government", a college professor said, adding that during the PDP-BJP's three year stint, they remained at their favourite colleges, either by greasing the palms of higher officials or due to some other means.
The officials further said that there were large number of professors, who have been serving at their choicest colleges in district headquarters for the last many years . "Some of the college professors were so influential that in the service of 15-20 years, except one or two years, they served entire life in city colleges due to reasons best known to authorities and these influential college professors", the official said.
They further said that on the other hand there were many professors, who have been overstaying at the colleges of far flung areas. "During popular governments there was mass scale corruption in the Higher Education department and rates were fixed for getting transfer in city colleges, but there has been no change under current regime", a college lecturer said.
An RTI activist of Jammu had also exposed the nexus of the influential college professors, who have been overstaying in city colleges but the revelations had failed to open the eyes of the higher education department.
"The Higher Education department has all the data regarding the overstaying college professors but the State administration has so far adopted a casual approach towards this anomaly," a college lecturer said.
