PDP splits without more Salahuddins, Yasin Maliks being born
Road for Mehbooba Mufti ends as 'dictatorial' policies backfire

Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 19: Attempts of the former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti to keep her party intact have not yielded any results as her party leaders have deserted her.
Soon after the BJP withdrew the support from the PDP led government in Jammu and Kashmir in June this year Mehbooba threatened that if any attempt is made to break her party more Salahuddins and Yasin Maliks would be born in Kashmir."Agar Dilli ne 1987 ki tarah yahan ki awam ke vote pe daaka dala, agar iss kism ki tod fod ki koshish ki,jis tarah ek Salahuddin ek Yasin Malik ne janm liya...agar Dilliwalon ne PDP ko todne ki koshish ki uski nataish bahut zyada khatarnaak hogay (If Delhi, tries to despoil the voting rights of people like 1987, if it tries to create divisions & interfere like that then I think just like a Salahuddin and a Yasin Malik were born in 1987...if it tries to break PDP like that then outcomes will be dangerous)," she had said on July 13, 2018.
Following her threat Anti-Terrorist Front India (ATFI) chief filed a sedition case against Mehbooba Mufti in Ambala Court. The complainant had termed Mehbooba's statement as "shameful" and said, "militancy is getting a boost by such irresponsible utterances." The petitioner had also requested the court to direct the police to register a case of treason against Mehbooba for her anti-national statement.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Today PDP stands at cross roads and no one has broken it at least not New Delhi. Her own people have deserted her due to her wrong policies. She is left with handful of people, who too seem disappointed and depressed."
He said, "The recent developments have proven it beyond doubt that PDP never was a one unit and the resentment against the party president had been brewing for a longtime. Despite PDP getting split neither Salah-ud-din’s nor Yasin Maliks were born."
"Mehbooba after losing power had made a last ditch attempt to blackmail New Delhi by threatening that her party getting split would lead to escalation of violence. The sedition case which was filed against her needs to be carried forward so that next time no leader of any mainstream party dares to threaten the country," said a politician.
A Kashmir watcher said that the fall of PDP was imminent when Mehbooba was ruling the state. "She after taking over as the Chief Minister of the state had deserted the people who were her well wishers. She was not even accessible to her own MLAs and party workers. People who had helped her reach the top post were sidelined by her and she acted like a dictator. Time has changed and the road has ended for her where she has been left alone," he added.
