Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 21: Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu and Kashmir has expressed concern over the problems being faced by traders of the state including pathetic condition of cross LOC trade, harassment by Commercial taxes department, delay in SGST refund beside others.
Addressing media persons, Rakesh Gupta and Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad, who were accompanied by representatives of various trade and industry associations including Raghunath Bazar Association, Kanak Mandi Association and Ware House Traders Federation, said, it was unfortunate that one of the most important Confidence Building Measures initiated by the then Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan ten years ago, was dying a slow death due to the absence of proper follow-up action.
Gupta stated that although both the countries had significantly moved forward with regard to the Kartarpur-Amritsar Corridor, no such forward movement was visible in the case of our State. Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad stated that a decision needed to be taken in this regard to improve the trade as it had failed to meet any of the objectives for which it was started.
He said that it was unfortunate that even after a passage of ten years, the business delegations from our side were not being allowed to visit the other side and as a consequence meetings had to be conducted in other countries. This had resulted in the whole becoming a cosmetic exercise.
Other prominent persons who were present in the Press Conference included Nasir Hamid Khan, Sr Vice President, KCC&I, Farooq Amin, Secretary General KCC&I, Rajesh Gupta, Sr. Vice President JCCI, Rajeev Gupta Jr. Vice President JCCI, Gaurav Gupta, Secretary JCCI and Ashu Gupta Treasurer JCCI.
