Omar forgets what Farooq did in 1990
Assembly polls

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Dec 21: NC vice-president and Farooq Abdullah's son Omar Abdullah has urged the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to hold the assembly elections in J&K before May 2019 so that a popularly-elected government was formed in the state and the President's Rule ended. Urging the Prime Minister to hold assembly polls before May 2019, Omar Abdullah also alleged that certain elements were trying to delay the assembly elections in the state and such attempts had to be defeated to restore a democratically-elected government in the state. "What exactly did Omar Abdullah say? He said: "Sir (PM Narendra Modi) please also commit your government to assembly elections in J&K. Vested interests, including some occupying positions of authority in J&K are trying to engineer a delay. Your government's handling of J&K will be judged by whether assembly elections are on time or not sir".
It's ironical that Omar Abdullah completely overlooked the fact that it was Farooq Abdullah, who in January created a situation that kept the state under Governor's Rule and President's Rule between January 19, 1990 and October 9, 1996. Farooq Abdullah had fled to London in January after he failed to control the situation that had arisen due to the wholesale rigging of the 1987 assembly elections and the rise of Salahuddins. Farooq Abdullah return to India only after the Government of India held Lok Sabha polls in 1996 that resulted in the victory of the Congress. The Congress won all the six seats. The NC had refused to contest the Lok Sabha elections. It was so morally afraid of the people of Kashmir.
It's strange that a party that made the authorities keep the state under Governor's Rule and President's rule for 6 years and 11 months is urging the Prime Minister to hold assembly elections before May for the restoration of so-called democracy.
