Early Times Report
KUPWARA, Dec 21: Two Army men were martyr as Pakistani troops violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in this north Kashmir district on Friday afternoon.
A top level police official said that, Pakistan army violated ceasefire (CFV) and opened sniper fire upon army posts along the Line of Control in Jumagand area of this border district.
"There was an unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Jumagand area of Keran sector of Kupwara district in which one junior commissioned officer (JCO) was killed while another succumbed to injuries later at a medical facility", a police official said.
The army's 2/8 Gardwal Regiment (GR) was routinely patrolling the fence along the line of Control in Jumgand area of Kupwara district, the official said.
The official said that, on Friday afternoon Pakistani rangers opened the sniper fire upon the army posts in Jumagand, in the initial fire two army personnel including a JCO were seriously injured.
He said that the injured were immediately evacuated to military hospital Drugmulla for advanced treatment where Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) Subedar Thapa succumbed to injuries, while as another injured army jawan was later moved to army's 92 base hospital Badamibagh Srinagar for further treatment where he succumbed to injuries taking toll to two.
However an army officer from Kupwara district told Early Times that Indian army retaliated strongly and befitting reply was given to the Pakistani rangers, after which there was no firing on Indian army posts.
"Though fact of the matter is that, there is heavy snow on the launching pads during the winter months, chances of infiltration always remain high, but so far we have foiled all their attempts, and will do the same in future", the army official said.
Meanwhile it is learnt that, one person was arrested on Friday in Singhpora area of Baramulla district.
As per sources, Zahoor Ahmad Khan son of Abdul Rashid resident of Soibugh was arrested by police at a checkpoint in Harterath village of Singhpora.
"He was coming from Srinagar to Baramulla in an Alto vehicle bearing registration number JK18-1299," said sources.
Sources said that a grenade and 49 rounds of AK47 were recovered from his possession.
