JKFFA pays tributes to Shaheed Udham Singh

JAMMU, Dec 26: To commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Shaheed Udham Singh, J&K Freedom Fighters' Associa-tion (JKFFA) held a function at Dogra Shourya Sthal Ambphalla, Jammu, here on Wednesday under the leadership of Ved Gandotra, Chairman JKFFA. Corpor-ator Ward No 17, Nidhi Magotra, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The participants paid rich tributes to Shaheed Udham Singh. Remembering Shaheed Udham Singh, the members also highlighted his life history and his determination to eliminate British General Dyer, who was responsible for the massacre of Jalianwala Bagh, Amritsar. The speakers said that on the fate full day of Baisakhi, the 13th April 1919, when the pro-freedom society was holding a rally in Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar, General Dyer, an officer of the British Empire ordered indiscriminate firing over the innocent, unarmed civilians, killing hundreds of them in one go. They added that Udham Singh annoyed with this killing determined to eliminate General Dyer and killed him at point-blank range in London and was martyred on 31st of July, 1940. The, members said that he was a hero, who could not tolerate the massacre of the unarmed Indians. They also said that Udham Singh was an Indian freedom fighter, considered to be one of the most influential revolutionaries of the Indian independence movement. They also stressed upon the youth to shun their self-centered outlook and contribute in the development of the nation.
