Shortage of manpower hits postal services in JK Circle
73 percent posts of Postmaster lying vacant

Jammu, Dec 26: Acute shortage of manpower in postal circle of Jammu and Kashmir has adversely affected the postal services as more than 60 percent posts of different categories like Multi Tasking Staff, Postman/ Mail guard, Postal Assistant and Post master are unfilled.
As per the latest information revealed by Ministry of Communi-cation and information in Postal Circle of Jammu and Kashmir, the government of India had sanctioned 1701 posts of different categories but ironically against the sanctioned strength only 713 posts are filled and remaining ones are unfilled since long time.
The document reveals that maximum posts of Post Master Grade I,II &III are lying vacant as against the sanctioned strength of 83, the Department of Posts has only 22 posts are available and remaining 74 percent (61) are vacant due to unknown reasons.
"Subsequently, there are 62 percent posts of Postman/ Mail Guard is lying vacant. The Postman having sanctioned strength is 350 but against it only 215 aren't filled, thereafter, 219 posts of Multitasking staff and 218 post of Postal assistant against the sanctioned strength of 417 and 851 respectively", the documents reads as.
The Circle of Jammu and Kashmir having 1699 post offices in both divisions wherein 1508 are established in rural areas and 191 are functional in urban areas whereas five were established in last three years under the scheme "Rural Business & Access to Postal Network but in terms of manpower, the Department of Posts has done nothing.
The document further reveals that against the total post offices, the department has succeeded only to complete 266 post offices as computerized in last four years and remain become laggard to complete digitization process as compare to other neighboring states.
