Manohar inaugurates 7-day long cricket tournament

Kathua, Dec 26: Former Minister and President DCC Kathua Dr. Manohar lal Sharma today inaugurated 7 day long Dhruv Singh memorial cricket tournament at village Jarai play grounds at Kathua. While inaugurating the tournament, he applauded the efforts of tournament management committee for conducting such sports activities and advised the youths to actively participate and concentrate on sports to win laurels for state and nation and also stay away from drugs .
He said drug mafia from neighboring Punjab state is trying hard to set its roots in Kathua Distt. but requested youths to reject it and stay away from drugs as it brings one close to death and ruins families. While addressing the public meeting at Jarai village he lambasted the previous BJP governments for neglecting rural areas of state particular in field of sports. He pointed out that there is lot of raw talent in rural areas which never came up due to lack of training, infrastructure which distracts youth and bend them towards other wrong activities. He said previous govt. holds sports activities only in few major cities and then conducted photo session on them for extracting money and fame on the name of sports.
He further pointed misuse of funds under Khelo India program. He said lot of funds came for sports activities but it was not used appropriately. He requested government to publish white paper on utilization and allocation of funds on block levels, province and district levels, also how many new play fields were made, how many stadiums upgraded and more under the scheme so that people come to know the truth.
