Lohri festival to be held in Jammu

Jammu, Jan 7: Team Jammu will organize Lohri procession citing efforts to revive the disappearing Dogra culture ethos and to educate the younger generation about age old traditions of Jammu. The procession will be held in coordination with Jammu Dogra Warriors and Jammu Heritage Society.
Addressing the media, Chairman, Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh said the Lohri procession will commence on January 12th on Saturday at 1:00 PM at historical Mubarak Mandi complex seat erstwhile Dogra rulers and culminate at the world famous Raghunath temple before passing through different routes of the city. Routes of the procession will be especially decorated with buntings, flowers and banners.
He added that we appeal various shopkeepers association from Mubarak Mandi to Raghunath bazaar to welcome the participants in colorful procession dancing on drumbeats and singing traditional Dogri songs. "We are organizing this historical event to revive the old tradition when erstwhile Dogra rulers used to celebrate the Lohri in similar way by taking out a procession from Mubarak Mandi. All the heads of various communities have also been invited to grace the occasion", Singh said.
He added that we are facing identity crisis. It is high time for Dogras to wake up otherwise Dogra culture and ethos would be a history. Also during the mega event folk singers, dancers from far flung area of Jammu region including number of school students of city will also rope in to make event big.
