Family-scion conspicuous for absence on Mufti's death anniversary
1/7/2019 11:14:28 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 7: Even as the Peoples Democratic Party had pledged to ensure maximum participation of the party cadres at the death anniversary of PDP founder and former Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, one of the key members of the family was conscious for his absence at the event. One of the scions of the Mufti family, who had joined the PDP after the demise of Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, couldn't be seen at the function held in their south Kashmir bastion.
Witnesses said though most of the relatives and other nears and dears of the Mufti family were seen present at the function held at the Dara Shikoh Garden, this leader in question was absent during the Duaiya Majlis.
But it is not for the first time that this Mufti family scion was missing from the scene when his presence was "needed the most."
After a rebellion emerged in the PDP against Mehbooba Mufti a few months ago, most of the PDP loyalists ensured to be present at the party meets to support her from time to time. But he was missing.
Sources said the last time he was seen in Kashmir was to attend shooting of a Bollywood movie being produced by a prominent film maker.
Sources said the PDP leader in question was seen attending the shooting and holding discussions with the film crew.
"We wonder why he joined politics if he couldn't devote time for it when PDP needed his presence the most," said a PDP leader on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said since the collapse of the PDP-BJP alliance in June 2018, the leader in question has been more concerned about "his private affairs than the party."
It was reliably learnt that the PDP leaders will raise this particular in the next party meet.
"The party leader who doesn't lend a helping hand in times of need doesn't deserve to be in the politics," said a PDP leader.
Despite repeated attempts the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti or the leader in question couldn't be contacted for comments.
