BJP may not repeat 2014 feat in Assembly poll
1/9/2019 8:56:06 PM
Even without seeking permission or approval from the Election Commission of India as already been announced by the Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh the state unit of the BJP has been asked by the party High Command to make preparations for the Assembly elections which are to be held along with the Lok Sabha poll due in May. The Union Home Minister had announced that the centre was rfeady to hold the Assembly election if the Election Commission of India agreed to hold these elections alongwith the Lok Sabha poll due in May. The BJP high command has asked its J&K unit to start the preparations for the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state. A sizeable group in the state unit of the BJP supports the idea of holding the Lok Sabha poll in the country and the results alone could boost the morale of the state unit of the BJP. This groups is opposed to holding the Assembly poll alongwith Lok Sabha elections because they know that the BJP may not be able to repeat the performance it had achieved in 2014 poll when the BJP had won 25 seats in the Assembly allowing it to form the Government alongwith the PDP. The coalition with the Kashmir centric party had been forged for the purpose of securing added central funds with the BJP Government in the centre. But to the chagrin of the BJP additional funds could not be received and utilized properly. Although a group within the state BJP unit had mooted the idea of holding the Assembly poll after the Lok Sabha election, the high command appears unconvinced with the proposal of deferring these. The state unit of the BJP has already told the high command that the J&K unit is ready for the Assembly election at any time," Ravinder Raina, state BJP president, has said. He disclosed that the party had started the preparations for the Assembly as well as Lok Sabha elections in the state. The state unit of the BJP has started the preparations for the Assembly as well as Lok Sabha elections immediately after the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly," Raina said and revealed that as part of the preparation process of shortlisting potential candidates for the Assembly was already in the final stage. Whether the Assembly election is held after a year or so but the BJP may not be able to perform better. This is the result of its failure in fulfilling its commitment made to people of the Jammu region.
