Early Times Report

Udhampur, Jan 9: The Chairman State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) has been asked to intervene into the river land grab by a private construction company at Moudh Udhampur on Jammu Srinagar highway. The company is said to have encroached huge forest land that includes river bed of Devika River.
Details available with Early Times reveal that Commissioner Secretary Forests & Environment has communicated to Chairman State Pollution Control Board (SPBC) to send a team of officers to the site and give a factual report. As reported already State Information Commission (SIC) has sought a complete report from Deputy Commissioner (DC) Udhampur within a month on the alleged land grab near Devika river at village Moudh. SIC in addition to other issues has sought a detailed report from the DC office about the encroachment of 45 kanals of land by a private construction company for setting up a mega stone crushing unit in the area. SIC asked ACD Udhampur how 45 kanals of land were occupied by the company while as only 10 marlas of land wereallotted to them by Government?
As per the interim order issued by State Informati
Follow-up
n Commission (SIC) Jammu vide file No: SIC/J/C/27/2018 Dated: 19.12.2018, the commission posed questions to the DC office Udhampur through Additional DC (ADC) who is also the designated Public Information Officer (PIO) under J&K RTI Act 2009 :
The SIC is interested in knowing the quantity and quality of land, the agency that has taken the land, how much river bed has been filled.
"The PIO/ADC, Udhampur is also directed to complete the enquiry and file a report in the matter before the State Information Commission within a period of one month from the date of receipt of this order " reads the interim order of SIC. The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Udhampur was summoned by the State Information Commission (SIC) in Jammu last month. The officer attended the hearing before SIC as information seeker had filed a complaint against him alleging that ADC / PIO had grossly violated the RTI law and didn't provide correct information vis a vis land grab on banks of Devika a tributary of Tawi river by a private construction company Gammon India that is involved in construction and expansion of national highway from Udhampur onwards.
