How successive Governments failed Education sector in J&K !
1758 schools run by a single teacher

Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 14: The sorry state of school education in the state and neglect and apathy of the successive governments can be can be gauged from the fact that over 1700 schools across the state are being run by a single teacher, even as Jammu and Kashmir government keeps claiming deliverance of quality education by introducing rationalization policy in its schools.
Sources informed Early Times that in the latest figures released by union Ministry of Human Resource and Development regarding to the state have revealed that there were 1758 schools across the state which had a single teacher.
"However, since the implementation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), the state government had appointed thousands of teachers under these centrally sponsored schemes. Now, all these schemes have been subsumed into Samagra Shiksha from this financial year but there are still thousands of schools having single teacher, that too in rural areas and far flung areas", informed sources, quoting a letter of MHRD to Principal Secretary to State on April, 2018 regarding "Filling the gap in availability and functioning of toilets in schools" and requested by MHRD to meet the Right to Education (RTE) norms for having separate toilets to boys and girls and safe adequate drinking water facilities to all the children in every recognised schools in private and government aided schools by May, 2018.
"But there are hundreds of schools having no separate toilets for boys and girls and lacked adequate drinking water facilities", informed source while wishing anonymity.
As per Unified District Information System of Education (UDISE) report of 2016-17, there were 1374 and 1391 girls and boys toilets of government schools which were lying dysfunctional.
The callousness on part of school education department can be gauged from this fact that after repeated notice from the union government to upload latest information regarding infrastructure on ShaGun portal of SSA, the official always ignored it.
