Early Times Report

Srinagar, Jan 28: In a first such development in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the Deputy Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation has appointed as many as four Advisors for his own self, drawing severe criticism from public circles while the SMC officials are likely to file a formal complaint with Raj Bhawan.
Vide a formal order the Deputy Mayor Shiekh Mohammed Imran has appointed four advisors while the SMC officials said there was "no such need" and that such "gimmicks" was hampering the normal work at the civic body.
As per the order, he has appointed four of the SMC corporators as his advisors.
"It's hereby informed that Mr. Wajahat Hussain, Hon'ble councillor / Corporator - Ward 06, Lal Chowk, is appointed as Administrative Advisor to Sheikh Mohammed Imran, Deputy Mayor," said the order.
"It's hereby informed that Mr. Mohammed Ashraf Palpori, Hon'ble councillor / Corporator - Ward 50, Rathpora, is appointed as Political Advisor … It's hereby informed that Mr. Mohammed Aqib Rem Shah, Hon'ble councillor / Corporator - Ward 03, Brane, is appointed as Political Secretary ," the order added.
"It's hereby informed that Mr. Ajaz Nazir Bhat, is appointed as Personal Assistant," the order said.
The SMC officials shared the order on social media but people ridiculed it saying why should a deputy mayor need any advisors.
"War council formed at Municipality as America leaves from Afghanistan. Deputy Mayor is appointing advisors for himself to analyze its impact on Srinagar Municipality!!," posted Mujtaba Nazki on social media.
Others said it was another publicity stunt.
The SMC officials told Early Times that they are fed up of the "unprofessional attitude of some of the corporators."
"From shouting slogans from the rooftop of SMC vehicles parked in the office to behaving rudely, some of them have been doing everything that sends a bad signal," the SMC officials said.
They said as if Deputy Mayor was a "chief minister or Governor that he needs so many advisors or secretaries."
The officials said the "unprofessional and immature behavior of some of the corporators has become a headache."
"Recently we were made to improperly communicate with a paramilitary camp at Parray Pora… We have decided to file a formal complaint with the Raj Bhawan, because we are fed of these non-professional developments," the officials said.
Despite repeated attempts the Deputy Mayor couldn't be contacted for comments. But his office confirmed that four appointments have been made.
