Election duty: Only 114 officials paid one month salary, others left in lurch
1/29/2019 12:00:23 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 28: In a glaring example of official favoritism and nepotism, the government of Jammu and Kashmir has paid additional one month salary /remuneration/wages only to the officials of a particular department who were associated with the Municipal and Panchayat Elections 2018, while thousands of other officials who actively participated in the process have been denied any monetary benefit.
As per the details available with ET, Tahir Hussain, Director Finance Home Department vide his letter No. Home/Acctts/Misc/2018 Dated 23-01-2019 addressed to DGP J&K and Director Fire & Emergency Services, J&K, Jammu stated, "I am directed to forward a copy of Govt. Order No. 98 GAD of 2019 Dated 21-1-2019 wherein one month additional salary has been granted in favor of officials whose name are figuring in the annexure and were associated with the process of elections to the Municipal/Panchayat 2018".
The list of 114 employees includes names of top 11 officials from Home Department beside officials from Housing & Urban Development Department, GAD, Personal Section of Chief Secretary and others.
Surprisingly, neither the election department nor the government of Jammu and Kashmir have issued any order with regard to additional salaries for those security personnel and employees of Rural Development Department including BDOs VLWs, MPWs & GRS who played a key role on ground for successful conduct of the Panchayat as well as Municipal elections.
Speaking to ET, some senior police officials rued government apathy towards officers and officials of police who performed their duties on ground without caring for their life while at the same time those who had no role in conducting the free and fair elections were given the additional salaries.
Meanwhile some RDD Officials slammed the government for not sanctioning one month salary for them while they played active role in holding the elections in terms of providing the material to polling parties, dispatching the polling parties, besides also helping the administration in arranging boarding and lodging facilities for polling parties.
