Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 28: Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has blamed Pakistan for continuing its support to militants and engineering infiltration across the Indo-Pak border to disrupt peace and harmony in the state.
There is no doubt about the fact that Pakistan is fomenting trouble and is not allowing things to settle down but Governor Malik needs to pay some heed towards what officials are doing in Jammu and Kashmir.
"In Kashmir situation is not that good as separatists and the militants are trying their best to keep the pot boiling but in Jammu region situation is better. Despite Jammu being militancy free bureaucrats and other officials don't let people work in peace," said a businessman.
He alleged that people at the helm find new ways and means to trouble the businessmen and other people associated with the private sector. "Governor Malik needs to tell the officials and bureaucrats that it's their duty to serve the people and they should stop troubling them. A mechanism needs to be put at place that if any official harasses anyone without any rhyme or reason, he should be dealt with sternly. The government officials should bear in mind that they are public servants and not the masters," the businessman added.
An analyst said that it's unfortunate that few black sheep among the officials have ruined the reputation of most of the government departments and are maligning image of the Government. "The Governor should ensure that such officials are identified and nailed," he said.
The analyst said that the rigid attitude of few "corrupt officials" has led to many small and big entrepreneurs winding up their businesses from Jammu region and shifting to other places. "The Governor Malik should direct the investigating agencies in the state to just keep a watch over the activities of the officials handling the vital departments in the state within few days he would come to know how the officials misuse their positions to fill their coffers," he alleged.
A politician said that soon after Governor Malik took the reins of the state he had said that he would launch a crusade against corruption. "He (Governor Malik) cancelled the contract of the leading insurance company and even acted against some people but he needs to look around him and see what officials are doing in Jammu region. The Governor's administration needs to act against the corrupt officials to clean the system and save the local businesses houses in Jammu region," the politician added.
