| GCPF holds discussion over General Category reservation | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 06: A meeting of the General Category People's Forum Jammu was held under the chairmanship of Raj Kumar Banathia, Chairman of the Forum in which threadbare discussion held over the various issues confronting the general category people.
Banathia alleged that political class of India had been promoting castes and communalism through reservation and divisible politics for political gains. He described the decision of Modi Government to provide 10% reservation to economically weaker sections (E.W.S), a step taken in right direction to undone injustice done to general category people.
Prof. Yash Paul Sharma, President of the Forum demanded that all tax-payers be considered as creamy layer and be debarred from the benefits of reservation. He further demanded that steps be taken towards the creation of casteless and classless society and the provision of "equal rights and equal laws for all" be made by total abolition of caste and class based reservations which negate the fundamental principles of equality, justice and liberty.
Som Nath Sharma, Gen. Secretary said that General Category people suffered and faced total neglect and discrimination for last seventy years. He demanded that special privileges that SC, ST, OBC and tribal's got provided to E.W.S of General category people and all types of reservation be provided to the people on economic basis as poverty is the biggest factor of all kinds of backwardness. Such a move will bring equality among all sections of the society. He warned political parties against the exploitation of people on castes & religion. He demanded abolition of political reservations under article 330 and 332.
The participants demanded delimitation of assembly constituencies based on the criteria laid down by the People's Representation Act. An appeal was made by Forum to the Governor S.P. Malik for ensuring a system of accountability in administration so that complaints are decided within fixed period. |
