Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 10: Government of India turning the heat on Pakistan stooges in Kashmir could prove to be a "big step" towards restoring peace in the Valley. But many people believe that the GoI should not have waited for so long to act against these elements.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government waited for five years to act against the anti-national elements in Kashmir. "The steps which were taken by the GoI in the past few weeks should have been taken long back. Had it happened before, by now Kashmir would have been a different place altogether," the analyst said.
He said that Pakistan stooges like Geelani, Mirwaiz and Yasin Malik during all these years have remained in constant touch with their bosses sitting across the Line of Control. "When Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi spoke to Mirwaiz and Geelani over phone the noose around them should have been tightened then and there only," the analyst added.
He said that when PDP-BJP combine were ruling Jammu and Kashmir in 2016 the then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti allowed these Pakistan stooges to run a parallel government in the Valley for six months. Separatists led by Geelnai, Mirwaiz and Malik issued protest calendars and took Valley hostage for six months. "No activity took place in the Valley for six months due to separatists orchestrating street protests and instigating youth to pelt stones," the analyst said.
After National Investigating Agency directed Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to reach New Delhi on Monday, former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti reacted sharply. "Mirwaiz Farooq isn't any ordinary separatist leader. He is religious & spiritual head to Kash Muslims. NIA summons to him are emblematic of GOIs repeated assaults on our religious identity. J&K is the proverbial sacrificial lamb exploited to divert attention from real issues," she wrote on twitter.
A Kashmir watcher said that people sitting in New Delhi are observing the reactions of Mehbooba Mufti keenly. "When Jamaat-e-Islami was banned she took to the streets and staged a protest seeking revocation of the ban. After NIA issued summon to Mirwaiz she has tried to give it a religious twist. Had she acted against these elements when she was heading the state she would have done a big service to people of Jammu and Kashmir. Unfortunately she played politics over sensitive issues when she was the Chief Minister of the state and today also she is doing the same," the Kashmir watcher added.
