Revocation of J&K's special status likely to prove detrimental for Dogras?
3/10/2019 11:58:15 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 10: The special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of Indian Constitution while as the Article 35-A was enacted as per the blueprint given by Maharaja Hari Singh to secure the interests of locals especially Dogras and its revocation is believed to prove detrimental for Dogras.
Maharaja Hari Singh had introduced the State Subject norms on April 20, 1927 to secure the interests of Dogras so that Punjabis did not usurp the rights of Dogras.
Political analysts are of the opinion that revocation of Article 35-A will ultimately dent the business of Jammu industrialists, hotel owners, transport operators, youth beside others.
The Kashmir valley is militancy hit and even peace loving Kashmirs are trying to settle outside the valley. "In such situation no one from outside the state will purchase land in Kashmir valley, take jobs or start business but the peaceful areas of Jammu will be favourite destination of large unemployed youth of country, big industrialists and other business holders", an analyst said, adding that the districts along national highway would see major inflow of people from other states.
"Now Jammu youth has been facing discrimination in state government jobs, in which maximum share is grabbed by Kashmiris and if State subject laws were abolished, the share of jobs will be taken by people from outside the state", a youth said.
Moreover, despite restrictions some large business houses have already opened their outlets in Jammu. "Time and again Jammu businessmen have been complaining about the selling of items on retail by a shopping mall, mandated to sell on whole sale. The opening of shopping mall of outsiders have dented the Jammu business", a local shopkeeper said, adding that the revocation of special status would allow big shopping mall chains to enter Jammu region and they would ultimately usurp the market of Jammu, pushing Jammu industrialists to wall.
The political analyst further stated that the hotel industry would also be hit hard. "The big industrialists will also enter holy city Katra and would eat away the small hotel owners and other businesses", the analyst said.
Another political analyst said that the tall claims of saffron party and its sister organizations that Jammu youth would get jobs due to increased industrial activity. "State government has been giving subsidies to the industrialists who preferred non local employee s and labour", a labour union leader said.
"Maharaja Hari Singh was a great visionary, who was aware about Dogras' interests but some parties have been demanding revocation of special status which is totally unfortunate", a politician said, adding that the saffron party might get some political benefits but it would be a dark chapter in the history of Jammu if the special status was written off.
